My name is Steve Beer and Miles was a great friend of all of the Sixth Formers at Westlands School when I was there as Head Boy in 1977-78. I'm virtually the same age as Miles and I have great memories of us drinking at the Sidewheeler Pub in Babbacombe, probably underage, chatting up Jennifer Reed and Jane Beazley. Also working at the Igloo Ice Cream Parlour in Paignton when he was working at a Fish and Chip shop a few yards up the road. We would exchange the relevant ice cream of his choice for fish and chips for free. 
So sorry to hear of his passing and it's a pity I'm working in Sofia, Bulgaria still, as a Biology teacher, otherwise I would attend the funeral. I do have photos but in my house in the West Midlands.
